As you know, on Saturday we are in concert at Pohick Regional Library, 6450 Sydenstricker Rd., Burke, VA 22015. Orchestra call is 1 PM, the concert is at 2. This is the library just off Old Keene Mill Rd. Everyone has been there before, but if you need specific driving directions, let me know today. Dress is concert black. Bring music stands, no chairs needed. Generally the room is well lit, but you never know when a bulb might be out; so it doesn’t hurt to have a standlight in the car.
The program: Boyce–all; Haydn–I and V; Grieg–all; Holst–all; Dag Wiren–IV.
This is our only truly “public” performance of the spring, so invite your family and friends. The next one is at Braddock Glen on the 28th, and this afternoon I have an appointment to meet with representatives at another venue for a possible concert on May 5, replacing the Martha Washington event.
In a previous email I mentioned the FSO concert Saturday evening at GMU, featuring Vaughan-Williams, Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis; Elgar, Introduction and Allegro for Strings; Bach, Keyboard Concerto in G minor, BWV 1058; and Glass, Piano Concerto No. 3, Simone Dinnerstein, piano. I’ll be there.
Comes now the competition:
Baroque Meets Romantic
Saturday, April 21, 2018 7:30 p.m., The Falls Church Episcopal
Handel: Organ Concerto in B-flat Major, Op. 4 No. 6, HWV 294 (Julie Huang Tucker, soloist)
Bruch: Romance, Op. 85 (Marc Ramirez, soloist)
Telemann: Viola Concerto in G Major, TWV 51: G9 (Olivia Hajioff, soloist)
Brahms: Serenade No. 2, in A Major, Op. 16
I didn’t see an address, so you’ll have to look it up; tickets available at the door. Given the choice, I would absolutely attend this event–but I don’t have a choice I’ve heard Marc and Olivia before and they are truly outstanding! So take your choice Saturday evening, one or the other.
